                 The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. The examination body, however, withheld 12,110 results for possible disciplinary action. “However, the results of 68,309 candidates from various centres are undergoing further screening to ascertain the culpability of 12,110 candidates’ results." The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, announced this at a news conference on the release of the results in Bwari, FCT, on Friday. The registrar said after thorough processing of answer scripts of the candidates who sat for the examination, the board discovered some forms of malpractice perpetuated during the examination.                         A Karu, Abuja, Upper Area Court has remanded 42-year-old Rufua Alabi in prison custody after he was arraigned for impregnating his 16-year-old daughter. The prosecutor, Cpl Pascal Njoku told the court that Alabi of Kurudu Village, Abuja, committed the offence sometime last year, following which the daughter was carrying a six-months-old pregnancy for him. He said that the girl's mother, Bose reported the matter at the Jikwoyi Police Station, after she found out that her daughter was pregnant and that Bose took her daughter to the hospital where a doctor confirmed that she was pregnant.                                             A US cargo plane has crashed after taking off from an airbase in Kyrgyzstan, local reports say. The tanker aircraft had left the US Manas airbase near the capital Bishkek, officials told AFP. The emergency situations ministry said the plane had broken into three pieces but information about casualties has yet to be released, reports the BBC. Seven crew members died when a US civilian cargo plane crashed at Bagram airbase in Afghanistan on Monday. Witnesses of the Kyrgyzstan crash told local media that they heard a boom and saw an explosion. The transport plane was carrying a cargo of fuel when it disappeared off the radar near the mountain village of Chaldybar, close to the border with Kazakhstan, Reuters reported. The US military uses the Manas airbase to maintain its operations in Afghanistan.

                       A woman died after being stabbed 20 times in the face and chest by her brother in an apparent 'honour killing' because she went out of the house alone, police said. Authorities said the man confessed to slitting his sister's throat and stabbing her repeatedly to 'cleanse the family honour'.                  A 76-year-old Auburn man is facing charges after killing a bear in his backyard. Richard Ahlstrand told WBZ-TV he was stocking his bird feeder when a bear about seven feet tall and 300-to-400 pounds started chasing him. That’s when he turned his shotgun on the bear. “I didn’t have time to aim through the sights, but I aimed in the direction of the head on this thing and I pulled the trigger before it got to me.  It just dropped,” he said. Ahlstrand said he was carrying the shotgun Friday night because he thought he saw the bear in his yard Thursday. “If that ever jumped on me, I wouldn’t even be here right know, I don’t think.  I know it was going to seriously maul me,” he said.
